Marti H., 60, Silver Spring, MD I just had to write to tell you how pleased I am with your skincare products. I have extremely sensitive skin and have been reluctant to try anything other than what I had used before. However, about 2 years ago I was convinced to try pH ADVANTAGE products (Cleanser, Moisturizer and more recently Rhydex). My skin has never looked better! I am frequently asked what I use on my skin because it really looks terrific. Thank you for your wonderful products. This is one very satisfied customer! Debra S., 45, Accounting, Canton, GA At last, pH ADVANTAGE has developed a TRUE Skincare line that my dry, sensitive skin lovers. Taken 15th years, but I found it. I found the line at my local Nordstrom, after giving Dr. Gross’s line a try. I have been using the Regimen 1 for 7 weeks, and what a difference in my skin. Complexion is getting smother and more radiant every day. The Microdermabrasion Gel is like heaven. The Vitamin C Serum is clearing up lines and forming my 45-year-old skin. And, WOW, the Eye Complex no more puffiness or dark circles. Co-worker has told me my eyes are bright and bigger. Thank you Dr. Cohen. Lesli D., 25, Sales, Dallas, TX I love the pH ADVANTAGE line because it is straight forward and to the point. No extra steps or unnecessary ingredients. Plus, a doctor created it. I feel safe knowing that what is going on my skin was created by someone who is aware of the latest technology someone who knows. Rira R. Z., 31, Helicopter Pilot, Fort Meade, MD I was lined to your counter by the beautiful skin of the ladies there. I’m 31 with combination and sensitive skin. Who still suffers from acne, but is intent upon fighting wrinkles early. As helicopter pilot I’m exposed to sun, exhaust, etc. Therefore and also probably apply sunscreen more often than your average girl. I was provided with samples of your eye gel and persuaded to buy the glycolic peels: OUTSTANDING! The consistency, predictability, manageability + look of my skin are phenomenal. Must still use benzyl peroxide, as my skin hates salicylic acid. And I’m also using Kinerase line, which my skin tones. But your products are winning me over. Linda M., 41, International Trade Specialist, Riva, MD I’ve been using pH ADVANTAGE-Regimen 1 since the beginning of July and have experienced noticeable improvement in the texture and brightness in my skin. I am 41 and don’t have any wrinkles yet. For the past few years I have actively worked to reduce the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. I use Obaji, which I felt was very harsh but somewhat effective, and MD Skincare, which was easy and convenient but not that effective on the pigmentation. At this point my pigmentation had broken up and is lighter. With pH ADVANTAGE, I look forward to further reducing my hyperpigmentation and maintaining healthy, youthful looking skin. Judith F.,64, Psychotherapist, Toronto, Ontario Canada I am fortunate to have had a beautiful mom who convinced me at a very young age that to look your best, you must be mindful of your what you eat, drink and think, in addition to consistent and sensible skin care. She bought me my first esthetician-formulated jar of face cream when I was 17, and I have been using various fine quality products ever since. So I can certainly appreciate being rewarded with good skin for my age, always under the impression that this is as good as it gets. Yet, from the first day of my pH ADVANTAGE regimen, I was genuinely surprised to see some real improvement in the smoothness, clarity and brightness of my skin. Since I have always favored good skin over makeup. I’ve been won over. It is lovely to use products that actually live up to the claims made for them. Bravo, Dr. C. and thank you! Jennifer D., 24, Sales support Representative, Orland Park, IL I love pH ADVANTAGE! Their products make my skin feel very soft and clean. The Microdermabrasion Gel is one of my favorite products because I feel like I just had a facial after I use it. My face has a nice healthy glow afterwards. All the products have just the right balance as to moisturize my skin but not dry it out. I’m glad I found out about these products and now I’ll always use them. Maria R., 24, Lancôme Makeup Artist, Dallas, TX I tried the acne cleanser and my skin completely balanced out, no more oiliness.

Definition of Bioavailability
“Bioavailability” is the term used by scientists to describe how much glycolic acid is available in a topical cream to permeate the stratum corneum or the outer layer of your skin. “The bioavailability of glycolic acid in a topical formulation is the fraction of glycolic acid that can permeate the stratum corneum of the skin”. (Source Cosmetic Dermatology) “Bioavailability” is also sometimes referred to as “free acid value”. The term “bioavailability” defines the point of difference between pH ADVANTAGE and other brands. The pH ADVANTAGE Regimens deliver more glycolic acid to the skin due to their unique formulation with a lower pH (bioavailability) and, as a result, they are the most effective glycolic acid products sold in retail today. In order for you to know how much glycolic acid is actually in a product, you need to know the amount when it is being prepared for processing (we call this the “initial concentration”) and what the pH level is when the processing is completed. If you do not have that information you will not have any idea how effective the product will be. The pH ADVANTAGE glycolic acid products always indicate on the front of the package the pH level, the initial concentration and the bioavailability so that you always know what you are getting. Remember, the higher the initial concentration and the lower the pH level of a product, the more effective the glycolic acid product will be. For example, in the pH ADVANTAGE AM MOISTURIZER in Regimen 1, the initial concentration of glycolic acid is 7% and the pH level is 3 which means that 5.74% of the glycolic acid (round to 6%) is available to penetrate the stratum corneum. If the pH level of that product were 4.5, the amount of glycolic acid available to penetrate the stratum corneum would be only 1%, hardly enough to do anything at all for your skin. These calculations are based on the Henderson-Hasselbach Equation (Source: Cosmetic Dermatology). Because the pH scale is logarithmic, a difference of one pH unit represents a tenfold or ten times change. As an analogy, earthquakes with magnitudes of between 2.5 to 5.4 only cause minor damage while earthquakes with magnitudes of between 7.0 to 7.9 are considered major and cause severe damage (Source: UPSeis), very similar to the logarithmic scale of pH. It is important to note that most glycolic acid products in the retail market have pH levels of between 4 and 4.5. On the next page you will see a chart that illustrates the pH scale for glycolic acid products based on the Henderson-Hasselbach Equation. It shows how products with initial concentrations of 7% and 11% respectively can vary in effectiveness depending on the pH level of the product. For example, the pH level of 3 (highlighted on the chart) represents the pH levels of all pH ADVANTAGE glycolic acid products and indicates the “bioavailability” of the products with initial concentrations 7% and 11%. Further down the chart you can see what the “bioavailability” of those products would be if the pH levels were 4.0 and 4.5. Quite a difference! Like a recipe for cooking you have to know how much glycolic acid.

Philospohy
Dr. Cohen first became interested in skincare while he was a resident with the world-renowned Long Island Plastic Surgery Group in New York. At that time most plastic surgeons had not yet embraced the benefits of comprehensive skin rejuvenation and maintenance programs and, most importantly, how this could impact surgical results.
He feels the biggest trend in aesthetic medicine is the integration of organic ingredients with high tech treatments that have long-lasting significant benefits. His patients needed treatments that really work and have a lasting effect.
Based on this growing trend, he developed a special interest in certain ingredients and their concentrations, and how they positively affected the skin, especially before and after surgery. As an aesthetic plastic surgeon, he is trained to look at the skin in a very complex way. The quality of his patient’s skin is very important in determining what kind of surgical outcome he or she can expect.
He limits his recommendations to products that have the appropriate clinical documentation supporting their effectiveness and to those that show proven results in the long run.
With that in mind, he formulated the pH ADVANTAGE line of products.
